Southern Africa Loop

Our intention is to do all the things we have heard so much about whilst building the plane in South Africa. Many times we have been told about the elephants in Botswana, and the wonder of the Namibian desert and amazing coastline. Always being asked whether we have seen this or that…our response was always ‘not yet’. Our patience is being repaid now as we can plan to see all these amazing sights. As we are only going through four countries there is slightly less planning than for our Very Big Trip, going as we are through Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.

UPDATED ROUTE FOR THE LOOP

Where do you think of when someone says Africa, and what do you think of first?

The Victoria Falls? The Big Five? Africa as the Cradle of Humanity….well, yes, yes and yes

We will set off from Johannesburg and fly up to the Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe side. Our next hop is to Botswana where we hope to see many elephants, the amazing San art in the Tsodillo Hills, and more wildlife around Maun (pronounced like clown- just for information).

Where next? We then cross into Namibia to see, amongst other things, the Flamingos around Walvis Bay, the Rock Art in Twyfelfontein, and Etosha Pan, which is home to many animals and birds.

Carrying on down the continent we re-enter South Africa and visit a wine estate, Cape Town (Kirstenbosch Gardens and the Contemporary Art Museum), and fly East along the Garden route, eventually heading back North to Johannesburg.
